Battling Cybercrime: MIT Tackles a Global Challenge | View article
Cybersecurity is an important concern for every organization. Current systems have vulnerabilities that, when compromised, can result in devastating and costly damage. Exposure to breaches in security grow as companies invest in technologies such as the cloud, mobile, and social media.
Organizations who have fallen victim to cyber- attacks report financial losses, intellectual property theft, reputational damage, and legal liability exposure. Virtually every industrial sector is concerned about security. It has become a fact of doing business: the question is not if a company will suffer an incident but when. Whether it be technical tools to provide a more secure environment or the business concerns of risk management, cybersecurity is an important aspect of doing business in today's world.
Effective cybersecurity approaches encompass not only technical tools, but also a comprehensive management approach to information security. Recognizing that cooperation between the technical and management aspects of an organization is key to overcoming the barriers to effective cybersecurity.
CyberSecurity@CSAIL (a technically focused research initiative based in MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory) and the Interdisciplinary Consortium for Improving Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity aka (IC)3 based in MIT's Sloan School of Management and focusing on the critical cybersecurity needs for critical infrastructure: Justification and ROI, culture of cyber-safety and a forum for CSO/CISO’s to advance Cybersecurity) have established a connection for our industry partners.
Members of both initiatives can connect in the following ways:
- Attend the Annual meeting of both initiatives (limited to 2 representatives from each visiting company/max 20 from either non-member consortia)
-Joint networking events
-Access to the joint website and paper repository
Collaboration and communication are essential to addressing the cybersecurity issues present in today's business climate. By working together, we hope to provide our members with access to the information that can have a positive impact for their organizations.
